Although during the final years the teams of Start Engineering JSC have been actively working on large scale infrastructural projects, the interest has been shifted to other spheres, the company has gained unprecedented experience on a number of leading for the country power projects. Right from its very creation, the electrical engineers and installation teams have been constructed key projects in the entire country as well as outside Bulgaria, which encompass electrical power production and power distribution.
Just during the last 20 years Start Engineering successfully completed work on projects in leading TPPs. The company designed, performed installation and starting up and commissioning works and together with Siemens introduced a turbine governor in Maritza East 2 TPP, Units 6-8, Bobov Dol TPP, Unit 1-2 and Varna TPP, Unit 4-6. It designed and performed starting up and commissioning works on a desulfuration plant control system Symphony of ABB, including CEMS, as well as adjustment of part electrical with the coal storage facility of Maritza East 2 TPP, Unit 7 and 8. A design, starting up and commissioning works, introduction and optimization of TPS control systems were made in Bobov Dol TPP Unit 1, 2 and 3 (210MW) together with Honeywell. The company also designed (hardware and software), delivered the equipment and made installation, starting up and adjustment works and introduction of systems for group control of excitation of the generators in Bobov Dol TPP and Maritza East 2 and 3 TPP.
Start Engineering introduced a system for continuous automatic monitoring of the flue gasses with equipment of ABB and DURAG in Deven TPP at SOLVAYSODI Devnya. It delivered, designed and performed installation and starting up and commissioning works and introduction of equipment and software for replacement of the old systems MIK 4000Ce with new control systems – MIK5000Ce in Kremikovtsi TPP, boiler №5.
Start Engineering constructed new cogenerating power units, reconstructed and constructed new Switchgears – 6, 10, 11 and 110kV, including design, delivery of current and voltage transformers, installation works, starting up and commissioning works and introduction in Burgas TPP. A design, fabrication and delivery of 0,4kV switchgears, installation works, starting up and adjustment works, introduction of a 6 and 20/0,4kV temporary power supply and REG 216-ABB protections of the unit transformer was performed in Maritza East 1 – AES-3C, Unit 1 and 2 - 2×300MW. 20kV and 6kV substations in Rousse TPP were reconstructed using equipment of Schneider Electric.
The specialists of Start Engineering JSC have also participated in designs abroad, including development of DCS system for control of TPP combined cycle – 900MW in Bandirma, Turkey, and in several paper factories as well, such as StoraEnso Maxau, Saica, France and Celbi, Portugal, as well as replacement of existing control systems with DCS system – Metso DNA of unit 3 and 4 in the Greek TPP Agios Dimitrio.
Most up to date participations of the company in the power industry include work on the newly constructed in 2014 cogeneration of Plovdiv North TPP with electrical power capacity of 49,9MW and heat power capacity of 54MW. On this project the engineers of Start Engineering JSC have also worked together with Siemens, with installation and adjustment of electrical equipment and heat transfer systems. Alongside with that a retrofit of Siemens protections is under way in Sofia TPP.
